The Sin of Silence!

The Sin of Silence! Exactly what does that mean? Let me start like this, Have you ever had an opportunity to share your faith, but didn’t? well that is the sin of silence. Yesterday afternoon we started “Share Jesus Without Fear” Bible study and this was how the first session started out. I want to list some of the reasons that were given to NOT share their faith.

  • Fear
  • Rejection
  • What people would think of us
  • Not being able to back up what we say
  • Because we sin
  • Pride

These are just a few of the reasons that the group could think of. I want to add that none of these reasons were valid reasons to God. If we look at the story of Moses where God called him to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses came up with a few excuses to be silent. Moses used the excuse that he couldn’t speak well, and God told him that He created his mouth, them Moses gave the excuse that the Israelites would ask who sent him, and God said, “Tell the I AM sent you…” So Moses didn’t have excuse that was good enough for God, so Moses did what God had called him to do.

God has called us to share our faith with the world.  The Bible does not present witnessing as an extra activity that is done only by a few special people. It is to be apart of each Christian’s daily life. God is at work creating opportunities. Be obedient and act on these moments that God is creating.

I want you to take a few minutes and think about this question, Which wound that was inflicted on Jesus was the one that gave the fatal blow?                                                                                                                                                                                        That is sort of a trick question, he died a physical death but we could say that SILENCE was the wound that killed Him. Why? No one spoke up for Him, He was abandoned by all. One of the most painful events in His life was when Peter denied Him three times on the night that Jesus was arrested.  I want you to think about this, Think about the times when you could have witnessed to someone but didn’t. Maybe you didn’t want to risk being rejected, embarrassed, or persecuted, instead you chose to be silent. This is a sin.

I want you to do this, in a few words write down another form of silence and put them in a comment on here and I will discuss them.

Love you ALL!
